Our Mission

UPRAA is an organization created to establish a network of University of Puerto Rico Alumni and Friends in the Continental United States and abroad.


Our History

During 2003, a group of Alumni and Friends of the University of Puerto Rico (UPR) Educational System residing in the Washington D.C. Metropolitan Area worked diligently to create UPRAA.


Our Programs and Activities

Since its inception, UPRAA has conducted programs and activities in consonance with its mission statement, purpose, goals, and objectives.


Board of Directors

  • José O. Torres

    Jose O. Torres is a retired U.S. Army military officer currently working as a Senior Information Technology Systems Analyst with the Department of the Army Chief Information Officer, The Pentagon, Washington, DC.

  • Alida Rodríguez

    Vice-President and Chair, Membership Committee

    Member, Washington DC Hispanic Charity Golf Classic Committee and Chair Scholarships Committee

  • Robert Alvarez

    Treasurer and Chair, Finance Committee

    Robert Alvarez is the Founder and Managing Partner for Global Variance Strategies, LLC a global trade and foreign investment promotion boutique firm in Washington, DC.

  • Amy de Jesús-Encarnacion

    UPRAA Representative in Puerto Rico and Member, Scholarship Committee

    Ms. Amy de Jesús is currently serving as DXC Technology’s Service Delivery Lead for the Puerto Rico Database Center of Excellence.

  • Jacob Lozada, Ph.D.

    Founding member and Chair, Outreach and Business Development Committee

    Chair, Washington DC Hispanic Charity Golf Classic Committee, Member, Finance Committee, and Member Nominations and Elections Committee.

  • Juan Leonardo Negrón-Díaz

    Chair, Communications and Marketing Committee

    Juan Leonardo Negrón-Díaz was born and raised in San Juan, Puerto Rico. Juan graduated in 2015 from the University of Puerto Rico (UPR) Río Piedras Campus Honors Program, majoring in Advertising and Public Relations.

  • Jomar Martinez-Feliciano

    Membership Committee

    Jomar Martinez graduated from the University of Puerto Rico - Mayaguez as an Industrial Engineer. He finished his bachelor’s degree while working as a COOP student in Ethicon,LLC in San Lorenzo Puerto Rico.

  • Melissa Rodriguez-Torres

    Chair, Women Leadership Series

    Melissa currently works as an Army Officer Staff officer with the Office of the Chief of Staff of the Army’s Pentagon Executive Communication Control.

  • Richard A. Negrón

    Co-Chair, Outreach and Business Development Committee

    Richard is the Third Party Advisor for DXC in the Americas region. He promotes the DXC value to Third Party firms like ISG, PwC, Gartner, KPMG, and others to develop new business and improve win-rate on existing pursuits.

  • Rosanna Torres

    Co-Chair, Communications

    Rosanna Torres have been in public service for over nine years and have long stressed the importance of advocating on behalf of the people of Puerto Rico.

  • Sara E. Clemente-Rosa

    Founding member and Member, Scholarship Committee

    Sara E Clemente Rosa is a retired Federal employee currently serving as the League of United Latin American Citizens’ (LULAC) Director of Federal Affairs and CEO of the Herencia-Heritage LLC.
