What is UPRAA?

The Association of University of Puerto Rico Alumni and Friends Abroad (UPRAA) is a 501 (c)(3) not for profit organization incorporated in the Commonwealth of Virginia.

Who does UPRAA represent?

UPRAA represents thousands of alumni from the University of Puerto Rico (UPR) educational system residing in the Continental U.S. The UPR educational system currently includes the following 11 campuses: Aguadilla, Arecibo, Bayamón, Carolina, Medical Sciences, Cayey, Humacao, Mayaguez, Ponce, Río Piedras, and Utuado.

Why was UPRAA created?

UPRAA was created to establish a strong network among its members and supporters, develop and conduct cultural programs, and support charitable initiatives. The Association aims to create a support network for its membership, supporters and the Hispanic community at large. UPRAA is organized for charitable, educational, cultural and civic purposes and is a non-partisan and non-sectarian organization.

When was UPRAA established?

UPRAA was established on November 24, 2003, at a reception held at the Hall of the Americas at the Inter-American Development Bank in Washington, DC. The President of the University of Puerto Rico Educational System and the UPRAA Interim Board of Directors officially launched the Association.

Who can join UPRAA?

Membership in the Association of University of Puerto Rico Alumni and Friends Abroad (UPRAA) is open to all. An individual does not have to be a graduate of the University of Puerto Rico System to join the organization.

What programs does UPRAA conduct?

UPRAA conducts programs and events in three key areas: Fund Raising in support of scholarships and charities, membership drives and education.

Where is UPRAA based?

UPRAA is based in the Commonwealth of Virginia near Washington, DC.

How does one apply for a UPRAA Scholarship?

Application instructions for UPRAA Scholarships are posted annually on the UPRAA website at: upraa.org.

How are scholarship recipients selected?

Recipients of UPRAA scholarships are selected based on academic merit and financial need. Additional requirements are found at upraa.org.

How much does it cost to join UPRAA?

UPRAA Membership fees are $35.00 annually.

Who manages and guides UPRAA?

UPRAA is managed by a volunteer Board of Directors and is guided by its bylaws.
